Immediate Support for Migrants
Madres y Familias Deportadas offers immediate support to people who have been deported to Tijuana or those who are migrating through the city. Located directly across from the San Ysidro port of entry, volunteers conduct outreach to people who have just been deported or families trying to cross to the US. Often, people who have been deported arrive in Tijuana with no money or ability to contact family for support.
Our center supports migrants in their transition with free phone calls to the US and Mexico and a grassroots network of service providers. Depending on donations, we offer clean clothes and water, in addition to connecting people with local shelters, rehabilitation centers, and legal counseling. For Mexican nationals without papers, we provide support to acquire identification, birth certificates, and other legal documents. Additionally, we work with local businesses to find jobs for people who have been repatriated.
